Fishing Reports April 2011

Terrible Weather, tough fishing

Fri, 04/29/2011

Lakers have been there, but not biting. 35mph gusts today with a steady 15-20 kont wind made fishing tough with browns and 'bows commiting suicide to keep the action going. It looks like February here, but the fish have to rise sometime. Keep fishing, it's the only way to catch. Heard of a few in the teens caught with bait- but nothing from the jiggers or trollers yet.

Great Weather, thats it

Thu, 04/28/2011

We launched with chains on yesterday, 15 to 20 knot winds all day. Today, 20 degree morning with t-shirts in the afternoon. A few nice fish being caught but not on our boat. Browns and small lakers went to snub the baits as well. Well, we did have a great crew out today - thanks Bob, Kelly and Al- we worked hard but did not see a trophy today. The weather is supposed to be tough this weekend, but you can't catch unless ya try- see ya out there.

Snow Blower, with catching!

Tue, 04/26/2011

Went out late today to find some fish- had a hard time finding the shore with the snow. 'hooked a good fish and got it to the side of the boat and popped off- every bit of 20lbs- very sad. Wind came up to 20knots and decided to whip me for the effort- trolled up small lakers and browns in 50fow. Saw a few good fish caught on bait and heard of a few really nice fish caught this morning- currently a white-out blizzard!-
My sites are changing hosting for a few days so reports will get backed up by a day or two- I will update on facebook- which I don't like doing- but you can follow the report at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/Bluemesafishingguide

Thu, 04/21/2011

Braved the weather with an A- crew today and were rewarded for the punishment. We landed a 9.5lber in the first run then slow afterwards. The laker jigging slowed as well with browns being picky. We worked hard though and ended up with some great browns and a decent laker and few nice fishthat got off! Great trip!

Blue Mesa Fishing Report- Browns bringin' up the laker slack!

Tue, 04/19/2011

The crew and I worked through punishing weather and 39 degree water and couldn't raise a laker- first cast- browns crushing baits.... go figure! So we finished up with some slab brown action and killer rainbow action and called it a trout fest. 2 other boats reported no action at all today so maybe the fish gods are frowning. Another great crew that put in the time it takes to get in line for a trophy!
Thanks guys, it was a pleasure

Lake Trout Fishing.... Slow

Fri, 04/15/2011

Hey guys, sorry for the late report- but if you're hardcore, you're coming anyway! So, we worked it hard today with little success... full moon, high pressure, day after the storm? I'm not sure, if the fish tell you, let me know- but I worked hard with an incredible crew but no hogs raised. The fish were snubbing us and laying on the bottom- wah wah! Hope some had better luck today. One of the veterans will on the lake for the rest of the season starting tomorrow so we'll get a another great idea of what to expect!- We are still waiting on SFC to bring it! Good luck!

Blue Mesa Reservoir Ice Out!

Blue Mesa Reservoir Ice Out!

Well, it happened on Monday and fishing was decent. A few nice lakers landed from around the lake but I did not break 20lbs. The yellow boat is getting a few more upgrades so I was using the back up vessel which limits my presentations- wah wah! Anyway, some decent fish were taken on Tues by local hardcores and we caught browns up to 4lbs. So far so good. We'll be back on Thursday with the big boat and try to apply some pressure! MOre pics and vids coming. Fish ON!

Blue Mesa Lake Trout Fishing News that may effect Blue Mesa Reservoir Ice Out!

Fri, 04/08/2011

This is real news. Rumors say boats may sit and wait the ramps, waiting for the government to let us on the lake!

DENVER - Many of the 54,000 federal employees who call Colorado home are waiting to see if they'll be furloughed come this weekend when the federal government could shut down. As of Wednesday afternoon, a deal to avoid the first government shutdown in more than 15 years had yet to be reached. A spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Labor confirmed on Wednesday that furloughed federal employees in the state would be eligible for unemployment benefits after a week. It's also clear that many federal employees are largely unaware if they'll be called "excepted" or "non-excepted" should the shutdown become a reality. "Excepted" employees would continue to work because their services are considered to be essential. According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, "excepted" employees include those who perform "emergency work involving the safety of human life or the protection or property." The determination of the classification could very well come as late as Friday afternoon. Again, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, "Agency legal counsels, working with senior agency managers, are determining which employees are designated to be handling 'excepted' and 'non-excepted' functions." The U.S. Forest Service told 9NEWS federal employees working the Crystal Fire in Larimer County, for example, would not be pulled off the fire lines. But Rocky Mountain National Park would almost certainly be closed. The last federal work stoppage came in late 95 and early 96. It lasted a record 21 days.

It's on, and staying on. Ice fishing is still a decent angle for catching on Blue, but the Ice remains. The good news is I'll keep you updated every few days- bet on it happening during the week though- it always does!

Ruedi Still Rocking- Current Weather: An Ice Killer

Sun, 04/03/2011

Report from Jon Young:Last minute laker. Linda Vieira with an 18" laker, through the ice at Ruedi Reservoir, taken on Saturday. The ice is still 15 inches thick, but with today's rain I'm not sure how much longer it will last. With freezing temperatures we may get one more week. John Young- John has been working Ruedi all winter with steady action on lakers up to 22". There's alot of fish up there, with few big ones as well- he says another week and that's it.
As for Blue, this weather is an ice killer. Keep up with us, and watch our webcam. This web cam is recorded in still frame, because there isn't any high speed interent up there. But, this camera shows a really close up shot of Sapinero basin, with the marina off to the left. Click on this Link,
then click on the picture and press go in the upper right hand corner. At the bottom of the screen you can slow down the slide show, repeat or speed up.- It's involved, but worth the shot.
